Barrisol Biowood® joins the Solar Impulse platform, which promotes clean, cost-effective and sustainable technological solutions. Solar Impulse is a global initiative created by Swiss explorer Bertrand Piccard, renowned for his aerial exploits. In 1999, he completed the first non-stop circumnavigation of the globe in a balloon, and in 2016, he completed a round-the-world flight in a solar-powered plane, after crossing the Pacific, demonstrating the potential of clean energy. His commitment to a sustainable future earned him the Champions of the Earth award from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2012. This award recognises personalities committed to environmental protection and sustainable development. Bertrand Piccard was honoured for his role in promoting clean technologies, particularly through his solar aircraft project.
Solar Impulse was originally known for its visionary project: the first solar-powered aircraft capable of flying day and night without fossil fuels. This ambitious project demonstrated that clean technologies could meet major technical challenges while inspiring a sustainable future.
Today, the Solar Impulse Foundation is building on this success by identifying and labelling more than 1,000 innovative, ecological and economically viable solutions to the world's environmental and economic challenges. Since its creation, Barrisol® has placed the preservation of the environment at the heart of its mission. It is our latest innovation, the Biowood® fabric, which is honoured on the Solar Impulse website.
